General Chair Assembly

Your new Medical/Dental chair requires some simple assembly before use.  First, make sure that you have the following parts:
(
A) Seat upperstructure and cushions
(
B) Height cylinder with sleeve
(
C) Five star base with castors
(
D) Foot ring (certain models only)

Step 1:  Assemble telescoping sleeves onto the height cylinder (B).

Step 2:  Insert small end of height cylinder (B) into seat upperstructure (A).  Note: once this step is completed, do not try to disassemble, as permanent damage could result.

Step 3:  If equipped with a foot ring, put the large end of the column/height cylinder (B) into the foot ring hub (D) as shown to the side.  Note the orientation of the foot ring.

Step 4:  Insert the large end of the column/height cylinder (B) into the base (C).

Step 5:  With foot ring equipped models, slip the large sleeve down on top of the foot ring.  With all other models, snap sleeve onto the base hub (as shown to the side).

Step 6:  With foot ring models, adjust the foot ring to the desired height, then tighten set screw into place with an allen wrench.

Note:  If backrest latching mechanism does not engage the first time the back is positioned, put foot on base, depress the back adjustment button and pull sharply on the back until it clicks.

Back/Seat Cylinder Replacement

Note: Removal/Installation of cylinders can be made easier by removing height cylinder/base unit from chair upperstructure.  To remove this, follow instructions under "height cylinder replacement."

Step 1:  Unscrew the two larger bolts (B) underneath the chair at the rear.  This will enable seat cushion (H) to lift off.  Handle (J) should be pulled up when removing.

Step 2:  With a Philips hear screwdriver, unscrew the two smaller screws (D) underneath the chair toward the front.  This will enable the plastic seat pan to be lowered enough to work.

Step 3:  The two "T" shaped cylinders inside the seat mechanism are the adjustment cylinders.  The one in the rear of the mechanism (0700 N) (G) is the back adjustment cylinder.  The one towards the front of the mechanism (0400 N) (F) is the seat adjustment cylinder.

Step 4:  On each end of the cylinder, there are two small snap rings that will pop off with a screwdriver.  Save these rings and the white washers to install the new cylinder.

Step 5:  Remove the old cylinder and replace.  Fix the old snap rings into the appropriate grooves on the new cylinder.

Step 6:  Reassemble the chair.

Cylinders are shipped from the factory in the compressed position.  When installing cylinder into the mechanism, take care not to touch to plastic part in the frame, because this will extend the cylinder.  MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT EXTEND THE CYLINDER DURING INSTALLATION.  If the cylinder is received in the extended position, please contact a customer service representative.

Height Cylinder Replacement

Note:  Place the seat at its lowest height and have the control level in.

Step 1:  Remove the dust cover on the bottom of base as shown.  If your chair was purchased prior to 1985, skip this step.

Step 2:  Using a large screwdriver or other blunt object, tap around the outer edges to remove the five leg base from lower end of the pedestal (see drawing).  Be certain not to strike the middle of the cylinder with any object.  The round cylinder tool only makes contact with the outer surfaces of the pedestal.

Step 3:  Use the screwdriver to remove the pedestal from the chair's upperstructure (see drawing).  Place the screwdriver on the collar that surrounds the pedestal.  Strike the screwdriver sharply and continue this process around the collar.  The pedestal should release from the upperstructure.  If not, continue striking the collar.

Step 4:  Apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly or spray both ends of the pedestal with silicon, WD40, etc.

Step 5:  Insert pedestal into chair upperstructure.

Step 6:  Insert chair and pedestal into five leg base.

Step 7:  Replace the dust cover on the bottom of five leg chair.

Step 8:  Sit in chair and ensure all functions operate properly.
